Preliminary Exercise: Content Page It's only natural that once we're done with the magazine cover we should design a content page for it and that's exactly what we've done! First I decided to plan out the allocation of space I wanted to give to each element of the content page I wanted to incorporate. Since the content page belongs to the same magazine the magazine cover does, I took the same measurements and settings for the content page, creating a new file. Having already decided the allocation of the various elements of a content, I started drawing my grid with the help of the ruler tool. I started off with two margins for neatness, a line indicating the space for the title and then divided the page into three different columns which will later hold all the contents of the content page. Next I decided to add a hook as a heading rather than the conventional heading of 'Contents' to make it more intriguing. I chose 'This Iss
Preliminary Exercise: Magazine Cover We've started to learn how to work on Photoshop, a software we will later be using to create our final magazine cover. Despite not being very tech savvy, I'm getting the hang of it. After a class lecture in which our teacher showed us some of the basic functions we would need, we were tasked with designing our own magazine cover. Already having picked the picture I wanted to use for my cover picture, I set to work. I started by creating a new file of the size I wanted my magazine cover to be, 8x11.5 Then I opened the picture I had chosen from my photo shoot for the preliminary magazine cover, in attempts to adjust it into my file so it could act as the cover picture. To merge the new file and the picture, I used the move tool and dragged the picture onto the new file. The picture, however, was too big and not in the proportions I needed due to it's high resolution. To adjust the picture into the size I need
Preliminary Exercise: Photography In preparation of our final magazine task, we are doing a preliminary exercise in which we're going to design a high-school-esq magazine cover on Photoshop. However, before we design the cover we need a good picture with sufficient headroom which we will later use as the cover picture of the magazine cover. I asked my senior and friend, Emil, to be the model for the cover picture since she is equal parts bookish and cool, fitting the notion of high school people have in their minds.  I have decided to use the third picture in my magazine cover since I  enjoy the composition of the picture and her staring into the camera will make the magazine look more immersive. The contrast of nature with symbols of man such as the books creates an interesting image of the balance teenagers try to achieve in their lives despite the ever rising expectations to succeed they struggle with.   (Me photographing Emil)
Preliminary Exercise: Inspiration Before we start taking pictures for our very own preliminary magazine cover, it's best to understand the conventions of the concept being used in the cover. Since we're supposed to design a high school-esque magazine cover, I decided to look at pictures snapped by others revolving around the concept of the millennial  education system. I chose this picture because it not only showcased the education system and the students but also the teacher. I liked the composition of this long shot as it manages to make a distinction between the teacher and the students without much struggle. The blurring of the students, especially those in the back makes the image appear sharper and not too busy. Another reason this picture was inspiring was, the students in the classrooms were representative of all ages.. We see teenagers and eager adults alike joined in one classroom. The objective. The finishing line. Graduation. Since the da
