Critical Analysis of Magazine Covers

To be able to create our very own successful magazine covers, we must first understand the elements and techniques which go into their design. Me and my classmates have spent the last week or so choosing the magazine covers which best appeal to our aesthetic senses and studying the nitty-gritties of all the components of a good magazine cover. After much pondering, I have chosen three magazines of diverse themes to analyse. 


Doing this analysis and media studies in itself is not only teaching me things like better understanding the message of the creators and how to better project my own message to the world, but also, how to use various soft wares and program's which has enhanced my learning. Despite struggling with Canva at first and wanting to switch back to good old Power Point, I persisted, and in the process learned something new and useful.

The magazine covers I chose, stem from my own personal taste and interests, helping me in better analysing the intentions of the creators in every little aspect.

I look forward to designing a magazine cover of my own soon.

Refined Content Page Despite being done with the content page, I decided it wouldn't hurt to look over it and see what can be done to spazz things up a bit. Once I looked it over I decided that despite the colourful pictures it looked a little bland so I made a few improvements. I thought it would be better to introduce a little more uniformity and so I made the first three columns equal in size. Naturally, the next step was to adjust all the elements on the content page accordingly. I did this with the help of the transformation tool (Ctrl T). I felt my content page could be improved with a splash of colour so I used the rectangle tool to make a long red rectangle in accordance with the magazine's colour scheme, the size of the right most column. I dragged this layer under all the others. I removed the ellipses from the heading of the content page and turned all the textual elements white so they would stand out against the red background.
