Mock-ups and Sketches

 Cover Page

For my magazine cover, I've decided to have centrally positioned mid long shot of my model, a female indie artist with her hands slightly and casually behind her back to demonstrate the humbleness she still possesses despite making waves. It will be a picture taken in low key lighting with parts of her body submerged in the darkness, blending in with the black background, demonstrating society surfacing from ignorance. The model will act as a prism, being hit by white light and diverging it into a rainbow, symbolic for opening the world up to see and realizing their own colours rather than following blindly. It showcases her as a leader. I've decided to be conventional when it comes to the cover lines, having three including the main cover line and following a L formation when it comes to their structure. I decided to put the main cover line at the bottom right, directly opposite the rest of the cover lines to make it stand out. The mast head will be stretched on the top of the magazine cover, most likely slightly covered by the model's head to highlight that she's the star of the cover.

Double Spread

For my double spread, I decided to adapt the theme of the prism, innovating it by using it as a divider in the double spread. I decided to dedicate the entirety of the right page to the anchoring image, a convention in most indie music magazines. I'll be placing the title on the same page in the head room of the picture with a by line situated right underneath, the former being the biggest text on both pages, effectively dragging the reader's attention. I decided to add a quote on the bottom of the same page to give some first person insight, making the account feel more personal. The rainbow will divide the body copy from one of the biggest secondary images in size. Below the rainbow will be the body copy situated in the first two columns on the left starting with a drop cap so readers are easily guided to the start of the article. Another secondary image will be included at the bottom of the second column as my target audience likes an abundance of images in their articles. A blurb will be placed in between the two columns in a slightly larger font, making it stand out as it breaks the symmetry of the two columns. The third column is reserved for a content box, and the lower half for credits.
